Gary Barber BSc, MRICS
A competent Chartered Surveyor with a proven knowledge and commercial approach to the full construction process; from site acquisition through to completion and investment or sale. Similarly experienced in a wide range of construction projects including infrastructure, industrial units, office buildings, retail units and retail parks, mixed-use and inner-city developments.
Early career primarily focused on the contractual and financial aspects of construction with a reputation for a dynamic approach to reducing costs, maximising value and avoiding or negotiating away construction risks. Latter experience has developed more rounded skills in property development, property investment and sale, management and project management. Involvement with numerous projects has established a wide network of contacts from employers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors.
A personal preference for being involved in the detail of projects has ensured a very hands-on approach being maintained resulting in a detailed knowledge of the whole construction process on various types of projects.
Bill Finn MRICS, Dip BS, Dip FM
Bill is a Chartered Surveyor with more than 30 years’ professional experience across a wide variety of sectors including all sizes of developments for both the public and private sector, major private limited companies, charity organisations and of course private equity organisations.
Bill has been extensively involved for the majority of his career as the property lead for significant multi-site organisations across the whole of the UK, responsible for the acquisition of sites and overseeing all aspects of new build developments, refurbishment & conversion programmes, as well as delivering comprehensive estate and asset management services for these organisations.
His experience includes appointing and leading multi-disciplinary project teams from inception through to construction and completion and often retaining managed portfolios. This experience includes the rollout of programmes for distribution and warehousing schemes, office developments, conversions and refurbishments as well as the development of specialist educational and care facilities.
Martin Cheesman BSc (Hons), CSCS
A well-seasoned project manager, Martin has experienced various roles within the healthcare, education and commercial sectors on projects of various sizes; responsibilities have primarily bee to oversee and manage the delivery consultant team and contractors from multiple small capital and maintenance frameworks through to the larger developments.
Prior to joining Benchmark, Martin worked directly for NHS Trusts and developed his skills in managing projects with large numbers of stakeholders and complex outcomes. In addition, managing a large and occasionally notable office and retail projects has given him a sound knowledge of commercial matters, along with extensive experience in both the JCT and NEC forms of contract.
Martin will take charge of a project and understand it in every detail and then enable all parties to know their responsibilities and meet them thus ensuring a satisfactory final outcome. He has an acute sense of safety on site and ensuring that all involved understand the goals and requirements being worked towards and work together for the project to succeed.
Assistant Projects Manager
Rhys is responsible for assisting the team and helping out with projects where necessary as well as beginning to become much more involved in smaller projects. He is currently studying a Quantity Surveying Degree at the University College of Estate Management.
Amanda is responsible for our office management, accounts and secretarial support.
